It was never the career choice I had in mind.

Civil engineering was always the plan, what I didn’t plan for was the 10 years of NRL that would happen first. However, by my second year at university, I was called up to make my debut for the Melbourne Storm.

Something I never thought be a career option.

By this stage, I was doing only 1 subject a semester. So after 10 years of NRL, studying part-time across 3 different universities - I graduated.

A 30 year old grad engineer šŸ‘“šŸ»

I have struggled with understanding what transferrable skills I had gained from this. Comparing myself to my 22 year old counterparts, I hoped I had a little more life experience to offer.

So after 5 years in the workforce, this is what I learnt prior to becoming an engineer;
